Guest Column by Common Sense: Megan Wright Thinks You’re Lost, But It’s the Brevard School Board That’s Wandering in the Dark.

Updated: May 6

In Brevard County, Florida, being on the school board no longer means serving students, it means surviving public meetings with the emotional maturity of a Facebook rant.

Take board member Megan Wright, for example, who took to social media to reflect on the chaos surrounding her:

“It’s a great reminder of how lost people are and how much this world needs Jesus!”

That’s right. When faced with a room full of parents, students, and educators demanding transparency, respect, and a basic grasp of the First Amendment, her takeaway wasn’t accountability, it was evangelism.

Apparently, when citizens beg for dignity and inclusion, Megan sees sinners in need of saving, not a system in need of fixing. It’s not just tone-deaf, it’s weaponized sanctimony.

She followed it up with a condescending plea for kindness:

“Everyone is doing the best [they] can and acting like this should be embarrassing instead of a badge of honor.”

Funny how the embarrassment never seems to land on the side that bans books, mocks pronouns, and cuts teachers loose for affirming kids. The board stages culture war theater in prime time, then clutches pearls when the audience dares to boo.

Let’s be clear: this board isn’t under attack, they’re being held accountable. And Megan’s post is a perfect example of how Brevard leadership confuses “criticism” with “persecution,” and “leadership” with “posting through it.”

What’s truly lost in all of this? The students. The books. The trust. The future.

But sure, Megan. Tell us again how the problem is that people aren’t being nice to you.

Dear Brevard school board.com,

(Or would you prefer I call you Brevard School Board?  If so, I’ll be happy to do so.  I’ll just need notarized written permission from your legal guardian.)

Anyhoo, with respect, I’d like to point out that you left a GLARING hole in your blog entry about banned books in our schools:  you focused only on UPPER level books!  I’m sure this was just an oversight.  Or maybe you were on a deadline.   Either way,  I’m sure you will want to reassure the good citizens of Brevard that you are hard at work protecting their youngest and most vulnerable readers, as well as their older brothers and sisters, from inappropriate and possibly harmful reading material!
