Our Story

Meet the Brevard County School Board: a group of elected officials who technically hold leadership roles but have mastered the art of doing very little with an alarming level of confidence. United by a shared commitment to avoiding accountability, our board members specialize in passing vague policies, dodging tough questions, and crafting press releases that say absolutely nothing.

While traditional school boards focus on education, ours prefers distractions, culture wars, and the occasional unconstitutional stunt. Leadership may not be our strength, but if you're looking for performative outrage and misdirected priorities, you’re in excellent hands.

Meet The Members

Superintendent Mark Rendell

Superintendent Mark Rendell is the district’s top administrator in title, though his primary skill appears to be political survival through strategic silence and carefully timed cluelessness. While schools face real crises from teacher shortages to constitutional violations, Rendell is more focused on appeasing extremist board members and dodging accountability like it's part of his job description (it isn’t). Rumors of an alleged affair with Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice have circulated, which, if true, would at least explain his spineless loyalty to her ideological offspring. Whether it's firing qualified staff, fumbling PR disasters, or just not showing up when leadership is needed, Rendell has made one thing clear: the only thing he's committed to running is from responsibility.

Matt Susin

Matt Susin is best known for hijacking a school discipline press conference staged dramatically in front of a jailhouse, and without bothering to inform the rest of the board. A former coach (don’t worry, he’ll mention it within five seconds), Susin channels that energy into grandstanding and interrupting, especially when race or equity come up, at which point he physically squirms while Gene Trent just sulks. Leadership, apparently, means theatrics over teamwork.

John Thomas

John Thomas is the new guy on the board, and Matt Susin’s reliable sidekick. A housing developer backed almost exclusively by other housing developers, Thomas raised eyebrows after audio surfaced of him pitching low-income teacher housing on surplus school board land… at a conservative group meeting while campaigning. It’s unclear whether he’s here to serve students or scout his next build site.

Katye Campbell

Katye Campbell desperately wants to be seen as the level-headed, no-nonsense voice of reason on the board. But scratch the surface and you’ll find a reliably hardline fundamentalist with a calm tone and a Christian nationalist agenda. She plays the “reasonable adult in the room” while quietly backing the same regressive policies as the loud ones.

Megan Wright

Megan Wright ran on a “parents’ rights” platform heavy on anti-mask hysteria and light on facts. She’s banned G-rated manga not for content, but seemingly because it's read “the wrong way” and features The Gay. Wright has publicly argued against collecting data on racial disparities in school discipline, because why bother with evidence when you can just guess? She also overruled a unanimous review committee to ban The Nowhere Girls, citing “multiple foul languages” and a firm belief that students might “spectate” something inappropriate. Her literacy on policy and basic vocabulary, is, at best, under review.

Gene Trent

Gene Trent ran on an anti-CRT, anti-“woke” platform while bizarrely claiming to put “students over politics.” Known for proudly sporting his Moms for Liberty tumbler at meetings, he shows no visible interest in education policy—or much of anything beyond culture war buzzwords. Functionally disengaged, Trent brings little to the table beyond heavy breathing and hollow slogans.
